What's changing?

Currently, when you update a resource title, the URL also changes. Once we implement the changes, the URL will remain unchanged and tied to the original resource title, even if you make changes to the title later.

Why are we making this change, and when?

This update is designed to positively impact our website’s SEO performance and, therefore, drive more traffic from search engines to your resources. Changing URLs has been a factor in resources losing their search ranking positions, which affects visibility and discoverability.

Keeping URLs unchanged means that your resources will maintain their SEO strength and continue to perform well in search results.

This change will go live on Thursday 27 November 2025.

What do you need to do?

Most authors will not need to take any action. You can still update your resource titles as needed, but the URL will remain unchanged.

Some authors may wish to change some resource titles. For example, if your titles include time bound information, such as specific years (e.g. Christmas Quiz 2025), you may wish to update these to something more generic (e.g. Christmas Quiz) before our change takes place. This means that the URL will not be dated and can be used for coming years.

Once this change is in place, you can update your title to include the year again without affecting the URL. This approach helps keep your resource evergreen and SEO-friendly.

Tips for Writing SEO-Friendly Titles:

  •  Keep it clear and descriptive: Make sure the title accurately reflects the content of your resource.

  • Use relevant keywords: Include terms teachers are likely to search for (e.g., “Christmas Quiz,” “KS3 Science Revision”).

  • Avoid unnecessary dates or versions: Unless essential, keep titles evergreen to maximize long-term visibility.

  • Check for spelling and grammar errors: Mistakes can harm SEO and make your resource harder to find.

  • Be concise: Aim for titles that are informative but not overly long – around 55-60 characters.
